Let us not forget the nobility of the cause…

During the September meeting, we had a spirited discussion concerning how we recruit clowns to work outside 'gigs'. The substance of the discussion was: who is responsible for getting clowns to work the various gigs that are offered to us throughout the year. We reduced ourselves to trying to force another of our members to find clowns to work our favorite gigs, gigs that we may have brought to the unit for consideration.

It's time to rise above the petty politics of the moment, and remember why we are here. We clowns should be at the forefront of the effort to help the kids. Our part has been clearly defined for us. We exist to raise money for the sneaker fund. We do this by working 'outside' gigs, which are willing to pay us money for our entertainment value. We forward this money on to the sneaker fund, which is accumulated by ISCA. All of this money is used for burns research. We can be justifiably proud of the many advances that Shrine hospitals have made in the treatment of burns. Shrine hospitals have revolutionized burns care. We are now routinely saving burn victims with burns on over 99% of their body. The clowns have played a big part in this revolution. Every day, hospitals all over the world, not just Shrine hospitals, but ALL hospitals, use our methods to save lives. WE did that, by patiently working gigs, and keeping our eyes on the goal.

Now is not the time to forget that noble cause.

We must not look at how we can blame our brothers for 'failing' to do our work for us. We must step up to the plate, and do whatever we can, to earn money to help 'our kids', which now includes all the kids in the world.

I therefore, am now proposing that we adhere to our goals, and perform our heroic duty to the best of our ability. If you bring a gig to the unit, do your level best to make that gig a success. YOU should call the members of our unit, to line up clowns for this event. YOU should certainly be present at that event. Impress the members of this unit with your dedication, not with your words.

The purpose of getting clowns for gigs is NOT to help out your friends who are putting on events for their groups or companies, but to earn money for our kids.

Brother Juggles produces email 'alerts' whenever he finds gigs that we are offered. We now have email addresses for 25 of our members, which includes almost all of the 'most active' members. Instead of deleting these messages, find one or more that you can work, and call Juggles. If you don't have access to the internet, we will automatically call all members to alert them to opportunities to work gigs.

In short, I am asking you to renew your dedication.

Let us not forget the nobility of the cause…

A note from Juggles:

Hello Gentlemen and you too Chili. I am writing this to you to help spread a little knowledge.

As you may know, some people are having problems getting, understanding and following up on emails. Here is the low down. When some one gets a gig, hears of a gig or smells a gig send me an email about it. Time, date, contact people, donations in detail.

I will then send out emails to everyone that has an email address. It is everyone's responsibility to reply to it whether you can do it or not. I don't read minds, sorry. If no one responds in a positive manner, I will consider it dead, and will go no further. When somebody responds that they would like to do this gig I will then send in for permission for it. After I have permission I will then send out an email stating who is interested in doing it.

If I do have positive feedback I will get a list of who wants to do it and contact the contacts. You may also contact them as that is why I put the contacts name and number down. If you get a gig presented to you Please be generous and proud that someone knew you enough and help by making phone calls. There are so many gigs that it would be a full time job for me to take care of this for every gig.

Last and not least. If you don't Understand,or the email gets bucked up or there is any question PLEASE PLEASE feel free to contact me. I wont Bite, I swear. We are all brothers in this for a reason lets try to gets this communication problem under control.

P:S Although it is strongly recommended that at least two clowns work together on a gig for our own safety. If you feel you would want to do the gig anyway, and alot of us have done private things, its cool. We just need to get permission first. Thank you for your time and understanding. Juggles

P:SS Razzle you can stop picking your nose now.

Do we have your email address??

Just take a second, and send it to me again... if we already have it, at least we'll know for sure...

 Thinking about joining the clowns?

ALL of the Units are great in Shrinedom. But Clowns DIRECTLY touch the hearts and lives of our kids. There is NO FASTER way to a man's heart than to see how he can help improve the life of a child. Clowns do that!

It's great to be a clown!

 Is that really magic?

How Magic Works!

Most magicians won't tell you how their magic works, but I'm going to let you in on a big secret.

There is no such thing as magic.

It's all a trick, done with clever hand movements, ingenious mechanical devices, and great showmanship.

But no magic.

But... if I can use a trick to distract you from your troubles for even a moment,

then it IS magic... for you... and for me also.

 The Clown Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to create more laughter than tears, dispense more happiness than gloom, spread more cheer than despair. Never let me grow so big that I will fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged. Never let me forget that I am a clown, that my work is to cheer people up, make them happy, and make them laugh, and make them forget momentarily all the unpleasant things in their lives.

It's great to be a clown!

No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a crippled child.
